Ford issues a recall for wheel-stud problems

Ford is planning to recall around 128,616 cars for faulty wheel lugs. Models being affected in this recall include 2010 and 2011 models of Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that vibration happens in the studs may lead to the crack or break, possibly resulting in the wheel falling off.

Ford said that it will start notifying its owners officially from Jan. 24, 2012. The company also will instruct dealers the procedure to reinstate the lug nuts on all four wheels.

The company insists that the owners should frequently inspect the rear brake-disc surface for flatness and replace the discs if necessary.

Apprehensive owners can call Ford's customer care department at (866) 436-7332 or NHTSA's vehicle-safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
